MALARIA is a disease caused by the Plasmodium parasite transmitted to humans by the bite of an infected mosquito, to which some strains are resistant to drugs.

Symptoms:
Fever, shivering, headaches, nausea, sweating, tiredness, chills, abdominal pain, diahrrhoa, aching muscles, appetite loss, dizziness, faintness when getting up, slight jaundice, enlarged spleen and liver.

Treatment:
A blood smear will reveal whether or not you are infected with the malaria parasites. Early treatment is very important and if treated properly and early enough, malaria can be cured, but if not it can result in death.
Children under five and pregnant woman are at high risk if they contract malaria.
Treatment includes reducing the fever and eliminating all parasites.

Prevention:
The most effective way to prevent malaria is preventing yourself from being bitten by a mosquito.
Use a mosquito net, wear long sleeves, long pants and cover feet and ankles.
Stay indoors between dusk and dawn, as like other blood suckers this is when Mosquitos feed.
Use insect repellent, anti-mosquito mats and coils
and treat clothes with insecticide.
In areas of high risk anitmalarial drugs are highly recommended.
