Most of the country lies 900m above sea level, 8° and 18° south of the equator but it's high altitude has a moderating effect on what would normaly be a harsh tropical climate.
It's 3 main seasons are May to August which are cool and dry, September to November which are hot and dry and December to April are warm and wet.
During the wet season heavy rainfall floods the roads and lodges and areas such as the Luangwa Valley become inaccessible, passable during the dry season only.
Ocober is the hottest month with temperatures reaching 40°. The coldest months are June and July when temperatures drop to around 10°
